The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards for Educators are set to help teachers empower their students to develop into great learners. They do this through the support of technological resources.

The first standard is as a teacher, we should still be learners. Some of my favorite teachers in school were always willing to learn and stay up to date on new ideas and teaching practices, especially through the use of new technology, to teach students. They were open-minded to their student’s ideas as well and willing to improve as teachers.
Another standard I like is standard 5, that educators should be designers. I still remember to this day learning activities that my teachers designed and implemented into the classroom. These activities were fun and exciting and I can remember the concepts that were enforced through the activity.

I think an important standard for teachers is standard 4, to be a collaborator. This puts emphasis on remembering to not only collaborate with other teachers for ideas, but also collaborate with your students when discovering and implementing new digital resources. I want to make sure I implement this standard into my classroom because I want my students to feel like they have control over their learning. I want to make learning something they enjoy, so why not have them help me make it enjoyable for them? I also want to promote my students to collaborate with their classmates to learn how to communicate and problem solve with their peers in order to develop those strong relationships. I want to be in open communication with my students and I want them to feel like they can share their ideas with me.
This goes along with standard 6, being a facilitator. As a teacher I want to create a classroom culture where students can feel free to express themselves and take ownership of their learning experiences. I can do this by providing technological resources and an environment that allows them room for creativity and expression. I can also create activities and hands-on opportunities for them to implement what they learn.
